Types of Cells!

Prokaryotic Cells

The "Prehistoric" cells

Pro=Simple!

  1. Ribosome
  2. Cell Membrane
  3. Cell Wall
  4. Flagella
  5. Nucleoid (Loose DNA)

Prokaryotic cells are simple cells with no special organelles
The best example of prokaryotic cells is bacteria! Bacteria are usually unicellular (ONE Cell)

Eukaryotic Cells

eeu·kary·ot·ic E=Everything!

Eukaryotic cells are complex cells with many special organelles. Two examples of eukaryotic cells: Plant and Animal Cells because they are usually multicellular (MULTIPLE Cells)

Contains all the genetic information (DNA) that the cells need to do their job.
City Job: Town Hall 🏛

Part of the cytoskeleton that gives the structure and shape of a cell.
City Job: Roads 🚥

Rough ER: Has ribosomes to create and transport proteins!
Smooth ER: NO ribosomes to create and transport lipids
City Job: Factory! (Meat and Butter) 🥩 🧈

Uses cellular respiration to create ENERGY and powers other cells.
City Job: Power Plant⚡🏭🔌🔋

Found on Rough ER and around the cell.
Main job is to make proteins that help fix up the cell.
City Job: Construction Workers

👷

Receives protein from Rough ER and lipids from Smooth ER.
PACKAGES and SHIPS items into vesicles to take to other parts of the cell.
City Job: Post Office/ Mail Messenger📮📤📫

Stores water, food, and other materials needed by the cell
City Job: Water Tower!

This organelles' function is to help the cell during division (when a cell multiplies from one cell to two cells)
City Job: Police Officers/ Firefighters 🚒
They stop traffic and divide others down a different highway!

Main job is to get rid of waste products produced by the cell

City Job: Garbage man

Surrounds and protects the cell by filtering what goes in and out!

Plant vs Animal Cells, What's the difference?

Plant Cells MUST HAVE:

Vacuoles store WATER and other materials. So, Plant cells need a WAY BIGGER vacuole

Plant cells need LOTS of ENERGY!
Plant Cells need BOTH mitochondria and Chloroplast to make food and energy.
Chloroplast is the organelle that takes in the sunlight! The pigment in this makes plant leaves GREEN.

Plants do not move so they need a strong stem to grow.
Plant Cells need BOTH a Cell Membrane and a Cell Wall.
The Cell Wall's job is to provide strength to the cell, which helps protect the cell against physical damage!

Remember! Cell Membrane filters out things!
